Brown trout were put into American rivers over a hundred years ago. I read an article from @orvisflyfishing by Phil Monahan that details their history arriving in our waters: (https://news.orvis.com/fly-fishing/classic-fish-facts-brown-trout-salmo-trutta) It seems that in 1883, some eggs were imported from Germany and then more eggs were imported from Scotland’s Loch Leven. Those two strains were mixed and the first browns were released into Michigan’s Baldwin River in 1884, a tributary of the Pere Marquette River. Some people say they were mostly Germans and some say they were mostly Scottish. Whatever you believe, these “American” brown trout are beautiful and fun to catch with a fly rod. They may not be a true native fish, but they wild where I fish (aka not stocked) and they fight well and get very big. #ColemanSpecial #TroutTeam6 #FlyFishing #CatchAndRelease #EuroNymphing #FlyFishingAddict #TightLines #KeepEmWet #FlyFishingJunkie #FlyFishingLife #TroutBum #FlyFishingLifestyle #TroutFishingInAmerica #FlyFishingNation #Orvis #OrvisFlyFishing #DriftlessFlyFishing #DriftlessArea #Trout #DriftlessAreaFlyFishing #BrownTrout #BrookTrout #RainbowTrout
